The 2010 Oral Rounds of the FDI Moot Competition were hosted by Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, California. A total of
32 teams took part in the
2010 FDI Moot with teams from Australia, Argentina, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Georgia, Germany, India, South Korea, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Ukraine, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
On Sunday 24 October 2010, before a final tribunal composed of Mr. Albert
Golbert, Mr. Eric Van Ginkel, and Professor Robert Lutz, Murdoch University of Australia prevailed over New York University (NYU) to win the 2010 Skadden, Arps FDI Moot Competition final. Heinrich Heine University of Düsseldorf took 3rd place over the University of New
Delhi, before a tribunal composed of Mr. Mark Kantor, Mr. José Antonio Rodríguez Márquez.
and Dr. Marko Jovanovic. The semi-finals between these teams were very close, in one case resulting in a formal dissent from one of the arbitrators as to which team should advance. Other quarter-finalists were University of Belgrade, Suffolk University, the Russian Academy of Justice, and University of Warsaw.
All match results for the 4 preliminary rounds can be found at: http://fdimoot.org/2010/Hearings/
A match was won by the team with the greater total of oral points (2 x
up to 50 points from each of the three judges) plus each team's weighted
(25 per cent) score on its memorial or counter-memorial. Teams advanced from the groups to the quarter-finals based on the number of match victories, with the strength of opponents (i.e. an extension of "head-to-head") as the tie breaker; in some groups several teams had 3 victories.
The Russian Academy of Justice won the best Claimant Memorial and NYU won the Best Respondent Memorial, both of which received book prizes sponsored by Oxford University Press.
NYU was the Highest Ranked Team (combination of the 4 preliminary rounds and memorial scores). |
