2010 FDI Moot Sponsorship

The co-founders are pleased to have the ongoing support of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP as the Foreign Direct Investment International Moot Competition's Global Law Firm Sponsor.

Oxford University Press is sponsoring six-month access to its online investor State arbitration resources for all registered teams.

Other ways to support the FDI Moot further are:

  • Pledge a stipend to help one or more teams take part >;

  • Donate to the team fund established by Ian Laird and Thomas Waelde

  • Host a social event at the oral hearings >;

  • Sponsor prizes for winning teams and individuals >.

Team Sponsorship

Team sponsorship may cover all or part of a team's registration fee, travel costs, or accommodation. A pledge may be restricted to a team from a certain university, city, state or country, time-frame or even use. We encourage sponsors not to be too restrictive. Team stipend pledges play an important role in teams' decisions to participate, in particular for teams from universities and countries that are not well resourced.

Make a donation  or pledge to support a team

The Ian Laird/Thomas Waelde Team Fund distributes donations to teams in the form of accommodation or travel subsidies. Donations, administered through CILS Benefactors, may be tax-deductible, and the full amount of all donations goes to teams. Teams receiving subsidies are selected based on available funds and team needs. We would like to thank FTI Consulting for agreeing to match all donations for 2010 up to US $2500. Donation Form US taxpayers may wish to donate via CILS Benefactors.

Prize Sponsorship

A sponsor may offer a cash prize for the winning team, for the best memorial or counter memorial. We envisage a minimum of $1000 and a maximum of $3000. If a sponsor wishes to offer more, a multi year arrangement or offering several prizes (e.g. regional incentives) would be advisable. A law firm could sponsor an internship at its office in city X, Y or Z (with cost of living stipend) for one, two, ... months for the best oralist as an individual prize. A cash prize for an individual would also be possible. A sponsor may wish to encourage participation from a particular region by offering a prize to the best team from Latin America, Asia, Africa, .... If a sponsor wished to be more specific, then a team sponsorship pledge would be advisable (see above). Fellowship opportunities, course scholarships and tuition rebates and book prizes would also be possible.

Prize sponsors will be listed on the competition website (including logo display), print materials, and certificate of award. Significant sole prize sponsors may name and present the prize at the awards ceremony.
